Richard Naish founded RTA Studio in 1999 after working with top practices in both London and Auckland. With a commitment to creating exceptional design with a personal service, they aim to make a memorable and lasting contribution to urban and natural context by challenging and delighting.

RTA Studio won the supreme award at 2015 Home of the Year awards with his home in suburban Auckland. The home is a series of pavilions where the family can all occupy a variety of multi-functioning spaces both inside and out. There are a few villas in the neighbourhood, and Naish said the site created an opportunity to break the house down into a form and scale that fitted the context of the heritage neighbourhood.

Another example of Naish’s creative designs is his holiday home in Cardrona Valley, which was an “exercise in going without”. Focusing on the bare minimum needed on a holiday, the cabin is an impressive response to both the landscape and the requirements of his family.
