First Light Studio

“Living for the next generation” is the mantra of innovative Wellington-based architectural firm First Light Studio.  With a focus on creating great enduring architecture that enhances well being, they have been involved in some exciting projects.

One of their designs started at Victoria University’s School of Architecture and Design when a group of students gained entry into the US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon. What began as a humble paper scheme morphed into a fully-fledged solar-powered eco-house. The first team in the Southern Hemisphere to ever win a place in the competition, the first country in the world to see the sun each day created what is now known as First Light. After travelling to Washington DC, the design placed first in Hot Water and Energy Balance, second in Architecture, third in Market Appeal and most importantly; third in the Solar Decathlon.
